Presentations given during the workshop are now available.

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) is organising the First ITU Workshop on Data Processing and Management for IoT and Smart Cities & Communities. The workshop is co-hosted by the European Commission and Open & Agile Smart Cities (OASC). Since 2017 OASC, represented by its president Martin Brynskov, is vice-chair of the Focus Group on Data Processing and Management (FG-DPM) as well as chair of the Working Group on DPM.

Presenting use cases to a community international experts

Participants will discuss activities beyond the state-of-the-art on standardisation and processes required for convergence to support Internet of Things (IoT) and Smart Cities & Communities. An overview of the Use Cases on data processing and management will provide insights on the necessary requirements. The workshop aims to shed light on the challenges of Smart Cities in Research & Development, as well as for standardisation convergence.

Take the opportunity and follow the one-day workshop online via the European Commission’s webcast. Have a look at the programme with an overview of all sessions and presentations.

ITU-T Focus Group meet-up

The full-day workshop on 19 February precedes the third meeting of the ITU-T Focus Group on Data Processing and Management to support IoT and Smart Cities & Communities (FG-DPM), hosted by Open & Agile Smart Cities on 20 – 23 February 2018 in Brussels, Belgium. SynchroniCity and MONICA, two IoT Large Scale Pilots on Smart Cities funded by the European Commission, under Horizon 2020, will contribute to the Focus Group activity by presenting their uses cases during the four-day meeting. Within this context, SynchroniCity has been providing concrete use cases, data models and a reference architecture model, together with privacy and data marketplace elements. These strong efforts contribute to define concrete steps for standards-based procurement in a global market for IoT for Smart Cities & Communities (#IOT4SCC).

Martin Brynskov, Chair of OASC:

“It’s good to see the convergence now happening in IoT and Smart Cities & Communities. There are so many standards and initiatives out there, so the aim should be to focus on joining and sharing what works best, and keep the common ground simple. This is the core OASC mission, and with concrete initiatives like the SynchroniCity IoT Large Scale Pilot for Smart Cities, the elements are coming together from many sides, making the vision about standards-based innovation and procurement real, and global”.
