SUMMARY:Demystifying space technologies for cities – Climate Adaptation\, 25 April 2024
DESCRIPTION:The SPACE4Cities project warmly welcomes you to the second edition of our webinar series: “Demystifying space technologies for cities – Climate Adaptation”.  \n \nDate and time: Thursday 25 April at 13:00 CET  \nPlace: Online. (The Zoom link will be emailed 1 week before the event.)  \n \nThe session will dive deeper into the application of space technologies and data to solve the cities’  challenges related to climate change and increase their resilience towards it. The webinar will be  recorded and made available to registered participants after the webinar.  \nAgenda  \n\n 13:00-13:05: Welcome and intro to webinar series (Alex Gluhak\, Open and Agile Smart Cities & Communities)\n13:05-13:15: “Near Time CO2 Data for the City to Support Decision Making: A Case Study from the City of Dijon” (Pete Hampton\, Everimpact)\n 13:15-13:30: “Waterfront management: Minimising the impact of coastal erosion” (Aurélie Dehouck\, I-sea)\n 13:30-13:45: “Space data as a non-invasive tool to assess the vulnerability over Cultural heritaged sites” (Georgia Kalousi\, Terra Spatium).\n 13:45-14:15: Panel discussion with presenters\, Q&A and wrap-up (Moderated by Alex Gluhak\, Open and Agile Smart Cities & Communities)\n\nEvent details  \nClimate change represents a key challenge faced by cities and communities across the world. The  impact of climate change is already visible in many cities today and is likely to become even more  severe in future. For example\, the rise of global temperatures causes sea levels to rise\, increasing the  number of extreme weather events such as floods\, droughts and storms or the spread of tropical  diseases.  \nAt the same time\, cities are directly responsible for climate change by being a major contributor to greenhouse gases. It is estimated that urban activities account for 75 per cent of global CO2 emissions\, with transport and buildings being the primary sources of these. \nThis session provides case studies and examples of how cities are leveraging solutions based on satellite technologies and other technology advances to lower their impact on climate change and  increase their resilience towards it.  \nThe goal of the SPACE4Cities webinar series is to increase the awareness about the potential of space  technologies\, provide information on opportunities that space-based technologies could offer and explore  successful use cases where such technologies are applied to solve cities’ challenges. \n \n \n REGISTER HERE
