SUMMARY:OASC Knowledge Exchange on (Local) Digital Twins
DESCRIPTION:About OASC knowledge exchange \nKnowledge exchange events are aimed at all members of the OASC community. They provide a peer-to-peer learning opportunity by exchanging successful use cases and best practices on various relevant digitisation topics.  \nThe events are moderated online roundtable discussions that bring together practitioners across our entire network to share their experiences on specific digitisation topics. They also offer opportunities to ask questions and obtain advice to help you on your journey. \nWhether you are a thought leader and front-runner or just curious about how to put things into practice in your community\, the OASC knowledge exchange allows you to share your knowledge with others\, obtain feedback or just learn from your peers. \nAbout the eventOur first knowledge exchange will focus on digital twins for cities and communities. \nDigital twins are digital representations of real-world assets\, infrastructure\, systems\, and business processes. They are connected to their real-world counterparts and the environment they operate in through IoT devices\, sensors\, and other data sources.  \nDigital twins are becoming a promising tool for improving local authority and city decision-making. Using 3D visualisations of their towns and simulations based on real-world data\, city planners\, policymakers\, and decision-makers can explore different actions and possible outcomes. Based on the derived evidence\, better solutions can then be implemented. Digital twins also provide excellent communication tools towards citizens\, making policy decisions more tangible and easy to understand. \nThe potential use cases for digital twins in cities are diverse and inspiring. They can range from optimising traffic management and mobility services to reducing energy and resource consumption across cities. By offering insights to improve urban planning\, sustainability\, and resilience\, digital twins can significantly enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of city operations. \nVarious members of our OASC network have started exploring the benefits of digital twin technologies in their respective communities. As they experimented with initial use cases\, these pioneers had to overcome many organisational and technical challenges and overinflated market expectations. The OASC team has also been involved in various local digital twin initiatives and has accumulated valuable learnings. \nWe are proud to have an exciting panel of digital twin practitioners to set the stage for the roundtable conversation. We will first learn about four different case studies of urban digital twins and explore the benefits they have enabled\, the challenges that must be overcome\, and the failures and lessons learned along the way. Then\, all participants will be invited to contribute to the round table discussion by asking further questions and/or sharing their experiences. \nThe roundtable will explore the following questions: \n\nHow to get a local digital twin in your community off the ground?\nWhat digital twin use cases already deliver value?\nWhat are the key implementation challenges\, and how can they be approached?\nWhat are common pitfalls\, and how can they be avoided?\nWhat are the most promising use cases to work on next?\n\nA draft agenda is presented below: \n\n“Welcome\, and introductions to the topic and panel speakers”\, Alex Gluhak\, OASC – (10mins)\nDigital Twin Case studies– Case Study 1: Christophe Colinet\, City of Bordeaux – (15 mins)– Case Study 2: Roland van der Heijden\, City of Rotterdam – (15 mins)– Case Study 3: Kim Lantto\, City of Gothenburg – (15 mins)\nRound table discussion\, moderated by Alex Gluhak\, OASC – (30 mins)\nWrap-up – (5 mins)\n\n\n \n REGISTER HERE

The webinar will be  recorded and made available to registered participants after the webinar.  \nAgenda  \n\n 13:00-13:05: Welcome and intro to webinar series (Alex Gluhak\, Open and Agile Smart Cities & Communities)\n13:05-13:15: “Near Time CO2 Data for the City to Support Decision Making: A Case Study from the City of Dijon” (Pete Hampton\, Everimpact)\n 13:15-13:30: “Waterfront management: Minimising the impact of coastal erosion” (Aurélie Dehouck\, I-sea)\n 13:30-13:45: “Space data as a non-invasive tool to assess the vulnerability over Cultural heritaged sites” (Georgia Kalousi\, Terra Spatium).\n 13:45-14:15: Panel discussion with presenters\, Q&A and wrap-up (Moderated by Alex Gluhak\, Open and Agile Smart Cities & Communities)\n\nEvent details  \nClimate change represents a key challenge faced by cities and communities across the world. The  impact of climate change is already visible in many cities today and is likely to become even more  severe in future. For example\, the rise of global temperatures causes sea levels to rise\, increasing the  number of extreme weather events such as floods\, droughts and storms or the spread of tropical  diseases.  \nAt the same time\, cities are directly responsible for climate change by being a major contributor to greenhouse gases. It is estimated that urban activities account for 75 per cent of global CO2 emissions\, with transport and buildings being the primary sources of these. \nThis session provides case studies and examples of how cities are leveraging solutions based on satellite technologies and other technology advances to lower their impact on climate change and  increase their resilience towards it.  \nThe goal of the SPACE4Cities webinar series is to increase the awareness about the potential of space  technologies\, provide information on opportunities that space-based technologies could offer and explore  successful use cases where such technologies are applied to solve cities’ challenges. \n \n \n REGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:Demystifying Space Technologies for Cities\, Communities and Regions\, 28 March 2024
DESCRIPTION:The SPACE4Cities project organises a webinar about the potential and benefits of space-based technologies for cities\, communities and regions. \nThis is the first edition of a webinar series organised by the EU project SPACE4Cities. The goal of these webinar series is to increase the awareness about the potential of space technologies for cities\, communities and regions in Europe\, provide information on opportunities that space-based technologies could offer them and explore successful use cases where such technologies are applied to solve cities’ challenges.  \nThe first session will be of introductory nature and set the scene for subsequent deep dives into space technologies for specific challenge areas. The webinar will be recorded and made available to registered participants after the webinar. See full agenda below. People of all backgrounds\, ages and interests are welcome. \nEvent details \nEurope has made significant investments into space technologies for navigation and positioning (e.g Galileo) or for earth observation (Copernicus). These systems are readily accessible through the EU Agency for Space Programme (EUSPA) and provide rich sources of data and services that conveniently cover large geographic areas across Europe.  \nData observed by space technologies can conveniently augment existing geo-spatial data sets to improve decision making and deliver new insights that have not been available before or are difficult to obtain at scale. Services enabled by enhanced navigation and positioning capabilities can improve how fleets and public services can be coordinated in different situations or how assets and logistical processes can be managed in urban and rural areas. \nWhile cities and communities are used to working with Geographic Information Systems (GIS)\, their use of space technologies so far has been rather limited. This is partially due to a lack of understanding what space technologies can offer to them together with recent innovations that are emerging from the use of these. \nAs a result\, there are many missed opportunities for cities to take advantage of these capabilities to solve difficult challenges they are currently facing be it urban space management and mobility\, disaster response\, better use of constraint resources or net-zero transition. Space technologies provide the potential to make cities and communities more sustainable and resilient. \nAgenda \n13:00-13:05: Welcome and intro to webinar series (Alex Gluhak\, Open and Agile Smart Cities & Communities) \n13:05-13:15: Introduction to the SPACE4Cities project (Renske Martijnse-Hartikka\, Forum Virium Helsinki) \n13:15-13:30: Satellite technologies offered by the EU Agency for Space Programme (Catalina Rodriguez\, Aerospace Valley) \n13:30-13:50: Market for space-based solution for urban environment\, applications and benefits (Alan Mandrillon\, Aerospace Valley and Juho-Pekka Virtanen\, Forum Virium Helsinki) \n13:50-14:00: Discussion\, Q&A and wrap-up (Moderated by Alex Gluhak\, Open and Agile Smart Cities & Communities) \n  \n \n REGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:The emerging Common European Energy Data Space - state of play and next steps\, 11 March 2024
DESCRIPTION:Learn about the creation of a Common European Data Space for Energy (CEEDS). \nThe European Data Strategy recognises the importance of data in the modern economy\, including in the energy sector\, where new players bring valuable data assets. Data is at the center of the power grid. It is exchanged between a large quantity of different software systems which enables utilities to properly plan\, operate\, and maintain their grid with a digitalised model of the physical world. \nThe Data Strategy and the EU Action plan on digitalising the energy system announced the creation of a Common European data space for Energy (CEEDS). The Commission will support the deployment of the energy data space through the DIGITAL Work Programme 2023-2024\, by considering the results of six already ongoing energy data space projects supported via Horizon Europe – five Innovation Action projects (DATA CELLAR; EDDIE;  Enershare; Omega-X; SYNERGIES) and one Coordination and Support Action (Int:net). These initiatives are focused on developing\, validating\, and demonstrating solutions for a Common European Energy Data Space that enables access to and use of energy-related data. Striking the right balance between general rules and sector-specific rules is crucial for successful implementation. \nThis data space will broaden access to data needed to develop innovative energy services that will help to balance and optimise the electricity grids and improve the energy efficiency of the built environment. It will play a key role in increasing the integration of intermittent renewable energy sources and thus advancing towards the goals set by the ‘Fit for 55’ package and the RePowerEU plan. The energy data space will be closely linked to other sector-specific data spaces (e.g. mobility and smart communities) and will thus enable actors from various sectors such as building automation and electro-mobility to actively participate in the energy market\, deliver energy services\, promote sector integration (the linking of various energy carriers – electricity\, heat\, cold\, gas\, solid and liquid fuels – with each other) and facilitate electrification of the end-uses such as heating/cooling and transport. This will allow them to contribute to the efficient use of energy\, boost the use of renewables\, and support the integration\, collaboration and information exchange between different sectors as well as create new business opportunities. \nThis workshop will explore the policy background of the work on the Common European Energy Data Space\, the preparatory work done so far within Horizon Europe with special focus on the blueprint for the energy data space developed by the preparatory actions and the upcoming actions such as the recently published deployment action under the DIGITAL Europe programme. The target audience is stakeholders from the energy\, digital and related sectors involved in the data management\, who have interest to contribute to the successful deployment of the Common Energy Data Spaces. You will be able to learn the details of the existing and upcoming initiatives as well as to meet like-minded stakeholders who you could join forces for a successful deployment of the CEEDS. \nAgenda: \n1.       Welcome and adoption of the agenda (EU Commission/int:net) \n2.       Policy background\, state of play\, next steps (EU Commission) \n3.       Short overview on energy data spaces cluster (int:net) \n4.       Q&A on the call and cluster activities \n5.       Interactive activity with participants: ideas\, challenges and collaboration opportunities \n6.       Conclusion \n \n REGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:Learnings and recommendations for sustainable mobility from the Dynamic Mobility Nudge project\, 1 February 2024
DESCRIPTION:In the final webinar\, we take a step back and reflect on learnings and important messages from our project. These include insights into our proof of concept\, which consisted of a field trial with situation-aware mobility nudges in Salzburg as well as a transnational hackathon in Uppsala\, and what challenges and opportunities we faced: What does it take to engage the public\, how can important stakeholders be involved and what factors are important for success within digital campaigns for sustainable mobility? We discuss the impact that our approach of digital nudging can have on behaviour. Finally\, we present policy recommendations from our project for helping others with fostering sustainable urban mobility. \n \n \n Register here

SUMMARY:DyMoN webinar: Using Data to Support Sustainable Mobility Behaviour\, 11 January 2024
DESCRIPTION:In other fields\, such as health\, it is quite common to not only design digital behavioural interventions and nudges (e.g. motivational strategies)\, but to also combine them with information about the relevant context of a person to increase effectiveness. The basic idea behind this is that a person’s decisions and behaviour are also very dependent on the current context. By considering situational variables\, we get a more realistic picture of a person’s current context\, and in turn\, the behavioural interventions and nudges have a greater chance of being effective. Within this webinar\, we show how situational aspects relevant for mobility behaviour can be digitally represented and integrated in a Geographical Information System (GIS) to be further used for “situation-aware nudges”. Moreover\, we will show how the collected data can also be used to feed it into multiple products\, such as a data dashboard that displays multiple indicators for sustainable mobility in a visual\, focused format. \n \n REGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:Digitally-enabled Behaviour Change for Sustainable Mobility\, 7 December 2023
DESCRIPTION:When it comes to promoting sustainable mobility\, local decision-makers (e.g. city representatives\, transport planners and providers) have the choice between two options: “Hard measures”\, like introducing new policies\, infrastructure and bans\, on their own are not always effective and cannot be implemented in every situation. Therefore\, “soft measures”\, behavioural interventions or “nudges” that operate without restrictions or bans\, have risen to prominence as a viable complement to policy measures and to support mobility infrastructure usage. In this webinar\, we are talking about soft measures in the form of digital tools that can help in changing mobility behaviour\, like smartphone apps. You surely have encountered this concept before – are you wearing a smartwatch right now or do you have a smartphone app that helps you with physical activity? Then you have a first understanding of digitally enabled behaviour change! We can transfer this idea to mobility. For this\, we are talking about models of behaviour change that help us in a deeper understanding of human behaviour and how behavioural interventions and nudges can be built on them. Further\, we show how digital tools can help in shaping mobility behaviour and discuss best practice examples. \n\n  \nRegister here: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZMtcuuqrDMiHda7ULwqw0WX8qYchPNrtzO9

SUMMARY:An Interdisciplinary View on Sustainable Urban Mobility Behaviour\, 16 November 2023
DESCRIPTION:In this webinar\, we will focus on the importance of sustainable mobility within cities: In a first step\, we will briefly dive into the sustainability discourse and connect it with mobility. We will learn about the tension field between negative ecological effects\, economic prosperity and societal participation. A key for a systemic understanding for sustainable mobility is the spatial reference. Mobility can be defined as the opportunity and capability to move in space. Following this definition\, people’s mobility is ultimately dependent on distance\, accessibility\, connectivity\, and the design of the streetscape. The latter is particularly due to the fact that the perception of the built and natural environment influences mobility decisions. With this in mind\, we will reflect together on the following questions: What exactly is sustainable mobility? What are spatial aspects of sustainable mobility? What kind of environment do we need to provide to make sustainable modes the “natural” option? And what potentials can we unlock for a shift towards sustainable urban mobility? \nRegister here: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZ0lfu6qqTwuGtXdzkt8lQa06PGjWPtYUgbn

SUMMARY:FIWARE Mobility Day
DESCRIPTION:Managing this urban sprawl effectively is a global priority. Improving mobility is a must. Many cities currently lack the necessary infrastructure to meet the mobility and travel needs of their citizens. The intelligent transport systems (ITS) of the future will need to be less emissive and energy-intensive and much more efficient. All sectors\, from cars and buses to rail – and even fully new vehicle concepts are in the pipeline –  are moving towards greater sustainability.  \nA Smart City is usually characterised by intelligent traffic planning\, the enhancement of local transport\, and the ideal interconnection of all road users. How can we achieve this efficiency? \nIntegrating new mobility models with existing ones will require public-private partnerships\, continuous innovation\, and action plans for low-emission\, accessible\, efficient\, and resilient infrastructures that serve every citizen. How can we achieve these ambitious objectives? \nRegister now for free and join our CEO\, Davor Meersman\, at the upcoming Fiware Mobility Day
