DESCRIPTION:FARI Conference: Local & Sustainable AI\, Data\, and Robotics\, 11-12 September 2023\n\n\nAbout the event \n\nThe world becomes more urbanized. Over 56% of the world population now lives in cities\, and this number can go as high as 97% in Belgium. In parallel\, technology plays an increasingly important role in these environments. Specifically: Artificial intelligence\, Data\, and Robotics have become an integral part of living in cities. We may not always be aware of their presence\, but they are playing a critical role in our daily commutes\, government services\, local stores\, or in the public space. \nConcepts such as “smart cities” have emerged and reflect the continuing desire of cities to implement these technologies on a large scale to address local challenges – one of which is\, of course\, becoming even more sustainable. AI and data are now being actively used in a variety of areas\, from energy sharing to biodiversity monitoring. Despite these hopes\, growing concerns have emerged about the overall inhibiting impact of these technologies on sustainability. In addition\, ethical and legal concerns have emerged\, to the point where cities enact local responsible use principles\, also insisting on greater citizen inclusion. \nThis conference will investigate if and how AI\, Data\, and Robotics\, can become local and are truly sustainable for cities. \n\nRegister here

The workshop will take place via ZOOM\, on July 12 th \, 14:00-16:00 CET. \nThis interim workshop is integrated in the Digital Europe Program (DEP) project entitled “Co-design of the Local Digital Twins (LDT) toolbox technical specifications for Advancing the transformation of Smart Communities”. \nThe main objective is to gather the feedback from the most relevant stakeholders part of the Smart cities and communities (SCC) ecosystem on the composition of the LDT toolbox\, as well as its sustainability over time as an evolving toolbox\, and the steps towards its deployment. The views collected will contribute to refining the approach toward the final delivery of the project in August. \nFor this reason\, while this workshop targets mostly cities and communities\, the wider LDT ecosystem is also welcome to join the discussion\, namely LDT technology providers and developers; Standardisation bodies; Smart city and communities networks; and participants in relevant DEP projects (e.g.\, DS4SCC). \nThe project is managed by unit CNECT.C.3 – Technologies for Smart Communities\, and it is led by Deloitte\, together with Capgemini\, OASC\, Intellera\, Technopolis Group\, IMEC\, TNO and DTU. This year\, the European Commission and NetZeroCities invite Mission City mayors and practitioners\, representatives of national and regional authorities\, and others to connect and engage on Mission-critical concepts and ideas.   \nMission in Progress: Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities Conference 2023  will be held in Brussels 26-27 June 2023. This invitation-only event is organised by the European Commission and NetZeroCities and will bring together political representatives and practitioners from the 112 Mission Cities to celebrate progress\, share insights and inspiration.  \nWho is the conference for? \nThe first day\, 26 June\, will be a day for exchange and dialogue between city practitioners – mission coordinators and transition team members within municipalities. The second day\, 27 June\, will have a two-track agenda: a practitioner track for city transition team delegates\, and a political track for mayors and deputy mayors.      \nThe two-day conference is a chance for Mission Cities to get inspired\, connect with other ambitious cities\, and share their experiences! City practitioners are encouraged to attend both days and Mission City Mayors are encouraged to attend on the second day for the plenary discussions and a series of special sessions for Mission City political representation.   \nWhat’s in store? \nWe have a lot on offer for cities over the two days including peer-to-peer exchange sessions\, inspiring panel discussions\, conversations with the EU Cities Mission representatives and more! DESCRIPTION:This focus group is organised in the realm of the project called Preparatory actions of the AI-on-Demand Platform (Pre-PAI). It is an EU founded project aimed at providing the blueprint for the further development\, deployment\, and operation of the European AI-on-demand platform (https://www.ai4europe.eu/). This sovereign platform aims to be the one-stop shop for a wide range of AI resources: contacts\, content\, data\, training\, services\, funding programmes\, jobs\, events\, technical tools etc. The European Commission will use it as its reference platform for all AI projects related actions at the EU level\, with the aim of involving researchers\, industry and public administrations. We are consulting public administrations at the national\, regional and local levels. We leverage on different consultation means: an online survey\, targeted interviews\, and focus groups. \nThis focus group is set to dig deeper into main needs of public administrations with regard to the adoption and use of AI. In particular\, the discussion will be based on all the functionalities which\, if developed on the AI-on-demand platform\, would provide value to public officers dealing with\, or interested in\, the use of AI for public services. It is titled “Workshop on organisational and cultural interoperability issues arising in local administrations” and is hosted by Wavestone. \nWavestone is conducting a study on organisational and cultural interoperability issues arising in local administrations when establishing local\, regional or national data spaces or local digital twins drawing on examples from European public administrations for the European Commission’s Directorate General for Communications Networks\, Content & Technology (DG CNECT) within the National Interoperability Framework Observatory (NIFO) led by the Directorate General for Informatics (DIGIT). \nThis study aims to provide an analysis of organisational and cultural interoperability issues\, two components of the European Interoperability Framework for Smart Cities and Communities’ (EIF4SCC) interoperability model\, identified in local or regional administrations when establishing data spaces or local digital twins. DESCRIPTION:On January 26\, it took place another exciting online webinar from the Data Space Support Centre (DSSC) Insight Series. It addressed a number of common questions such as\, What is a Data Space? What are the benefits? How can you be a part of it? How the DSSC can support the key initiatives which are dealing with current challenges\, such as Climate change (Green Deal initiative) and industrial sectors such as Smart Manufacturing? \nThe Data Spaces Support Centre\, it is an initiative funded by the European Commission as part of the Digital Europe Program\, which defines common requirements and establishes best practices and guidelines to accelerate the design and implementation of Data Spaces based on the main pillars of data sharing ecosystems such as #sovereignty\, #interoperability and #trust. \nDSSC explores the Data Spaces needs\, defines common requirements and establishes best practices to accelerate the design and implementation of data spaces – key elements of digital transformation – at all levels. \nDo not miss out our third webinar on the 23th of February. DESCRIPTION:CONNECTED SMART AND SUSTAINABLE CITIES AND COMMUNITIES CONFERENCE 2023 \nThe digital transformation and innovation in Cities\, businesses and industry has been profoundly reconfiguring the ways in which services are provided and knowledge and value are generated. The requirements of the public sector\, which must address the growing complexity of challenges and the increasing demands of citizens\, are ever more important to ensure an alignment of digital solutions and services for cities and communities. This annual event of the Open & Agile Smart Cities (OASC) network\, brings the community of members and partners together. \nJoin us at the CONNECTED SMART AND SUSTAINABLE CITIES AND COMMUNITIES CONFERENCE 2023 in Brussels\, for two days of engaging workshops and sessions on concrete solutions\, tools\, approaches and strategies that cities and communities have implemented or used during their digital transformation journey. \nDay 1: January 17 \nDuring this community day\, organised for OASC members and partners\, we provide insights to cities and communities globally on the path towards sharing and re-using of digital\, data-driven solutions\, and gather requirements and needs from its members via discussion sessions and working groups. \nOASC will start the day by contextualizing digital transformation and innovation in cities\, to be followed by a session about OASC´s role in supporting public authorities in this transformation and setting up a vision for the future. The last session will be dedicated to Minimum Interoperability Mechanisms (MIMs) and the way they can contribute to the practical implementation of interoperability and collaboration between cities and communities. \nThis day will be closed with an informal stakeholders dinner. \nDay 1 Agenda \nDay 2: January 18\nA whole day full of roundtables\, workshops and sessions on the hottest topics  of the moment for cities\, communities and other stakeholders in digital transformation\, like data spaces\, local digital twins\, sustainability\, security\, trust\, funding opportunities\, standards and\, of course: MIMs – Minimal Interoperability Mechanisms. SUMMARY:Learning Circle on MIM4 Standard
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the online Learning Circle on the Minimal Interoperability Standard 4 (MIM-4): Towards Interoperable Personal Data Management within Smart Cities \n4 October – 22 November 2022\, online\, free \nProvided by Vastuu Group & H3C project \nThe learning circle is part of the H3C: Human-centric companies and cities project\, co-funded by the Helsinki-Uusimaa Regional Council from the sum allocated for the purpose of buttressing sustainable growth and vitality in the regions. \nWhat is it all about\nThis learning circle consists of four workshops held biweekly (homework realisation could be given three weeks to conclude) from 4 October to 22 November. It’s all online and with free participation. \nEach consecutive workshop drills deeper on implementing human-centric personal data use cases hands-on. The actual hands-on phase and team homework require the attendees to form teams of 3 to 4 persons\, ultimately such teams should come from the same organisation and represent its core stakeholders what comes to realising new personal data-driven services. By the end of the circle the participants undergo a process of defining and implementing a working prototype of their own MyData service. \nThe provided sandbox based on our MyDataShare operator platform contains tools\, simulated data sources and active credentials for the teams to configure their use cases within the MyData operator. Homework may include the team’s own software development around a rough MyData service prototype. \nIf some learning circle participants are either using a different MyData Operator already in their services\, or represent another operator\, the team homework can also be arranged around multi-operator interoperability. This would focus on data source interoperability across operators\, and an approach is sought by using a suggested MIM4 Connector element. Access to the Connector source code and documentation is provided for the teams\, and the simulated data sources for the generic MyData use cases can be used also in this cross-operator interoperability homework track.
