SUMMARY:Webinar - The Climate-Neutral and Sustainable Smart Cities Horizon Europe
DESCRIPTION:Cities account for more than 70% of global carbon emissions. By 2050\, nearly 70% of the global population will be living in cities\, up from 50% today. As city populations grow\, the demand for services but also pressure on resources is increasing. This demand has a major impact on energy\, water\, waste\, mobility and any other service that is essential to ensure a city’s prosperity and sustainability. A coordinated and synergistic approach is needed to maximise the impact of climate-neutral and sustainable smart cities efforts and allow the several technological and policy-related challenges to be properly addressed. \nThe Climate-neutral and Sustainable Smart Cities Horizon Europe webinar is gathering top experts from the European Commission\, industry and academia to present and discuss how energy-efficient technologies\, mechanisms\, and policies must be put in place at several levels to ensure green digital transformation and the recovery of our society and economy. \nJoin the OASC Chair of the Board of Directors\, Martin Brynskov\, at the webinar\, when relevant Horizon Europe initiatives will be presented. \nRegister here.

SUMMARY:Poznan - City Development Forum
DESCRIPTION:During the 4th edition of the Forum we want to answer the question whether the vision of a friendly city with safe streets and space for spending time together is achievable. How to achieve maximum safety on the streets? Can education help with this\, together with the support of modern technologies?  What is the role of residents in building security in their own city? The Norwegian project “Vision Zero”\, i.e. an effective strategy to reduce the number of accidents in road traffic\, can be a model to follow. Not a single child died on Norwegian roads in 2019. This is the result of long-term\, thoughtful and interdisciplinary work. Pedestrian safety\, especially for the youngest traffic participants\, is the theme of the Vienna project “School Streets” project\, which allows students to safely use public space in the school environment\, integrating by walking or commuting to school by bike or scooter and learning healthy and ecological forms of mobility.

SUMMARY:Future of Standards – User Research: Celebrating World Standards Day

Where can I find them? \nIf you have ever asked any of these questions in your daily job\, then this Show & Tell session is the one for you. \nThere are more than 96\,000 standards available (source: British Standards Online). They cover almost all business fields and work areas. Some of them are compulsory and others aren’t. Some are for free while other are more difficult to find. From our research we have found that many people know they are important but are not really sure how to use them. \nThe session is organised by Connected Places Catapult\, a core partner of Open & Agile Smart Cities.

SUMMARY:IoT Week 2020
DESCRIPTION:Next Generation IoT for a Sustainable Future\nThe rising awareness of climate change has caused the popularization of sustainability and the realization that we need to do things not only differently\, but better. As focus shifts to finding solutions to climate issues\, technological advancements and innovation present a promising way forward. \nThe Internet of Things\, for example\, which Boston Consulting Group estimates will boom into an $267 billion dollar industry by 2020\, promises to facilitate great leaps in our efforts to transform our places and spaces\, from homes and offices to entire cities\, into sustainable environments. \nIf IoT technologies build on not only established technology\, but also new capabilities in the backend\, such as artificial intelligence\, deep semantic interoperability and novel contractual arrangements like Blockchains\, they will undoubtedly bring fundamental change to all sectors of activity\, improving the way we live and work. \nIn other words\, IoT is likely to be an essential element of the Next Generation Internet\, setting the groundwork for systems and devices of the future. \nMore info on the webpage of the event.
