DESCRIPTION:APIs are a foundational component of modern digital architectures\, impacting every sector of the global economy. In the public sector\, APIs are a key enabler to accelerate the digital evolution of governments and its agencies. \nTherefore\, the European Commission is currently conducting the two-year study “Digital Government APIs. The road to added value Open API-driven services (APIs4DGov)”. DESCRIPTION:OASC and the EU’s Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) are organising a joint webinar to give an overview of the opportunities for European cities & communities to implement so-called digital Building Blocks. The webinar\, which takes place on 5 July 2019\, will particularly focus on the Context Broker and Big Data Test Infrastructure Building Blocks. \nIn a dedicated webinar for the members of Open & Agile Smart Cities\, participants will get an overview of the CEF Digital Building Blocks and how cities can use the building blocks to deliver improved public services\, to manage data more efficiently\, and to support policy-making through better data. A particular focus will be the upcoming funding opportunities to implement two of the CEF Building Blocks. \n  \nPlease register here. \n  \n \nThe CEF Context Broker is compatible with OASC Minimal Interoperability Mechanism 1 “Context Information Management”. \nThe CEF Context Broker enables organisations (including but not limited to public administrations) to manage and share data in real-time describing “what is currently happening” within their organisations\, in the real world they manage or where they run their daily business processes. Thus\, for example\, Smart Cities can share information about what is happening in streets (e.g.\, traffic status\, quality of air data\, available parking slots\, location).  Similarly\, a packet delivery service company may share data about orders (e.g.\, current location and expected delivery time). This information describing what is currently happening is referred as “context information”. \nThe CEF Context Broker provides the FIWARE NGSI API\, which is a RESTful API enabling applications to provide updates and get access to context information. \nFor more information visit the CEF website. \n  \nCEF Big Data Test Infrastructure (BDTI) provides a set of data and analytics services from infrastructure to tools and advisory\, allowing European organisations to experiment with Big Data technologies and move towards a data-driven policy making. \nBDTI offers tools and technologies to support the different elements of data processing\, from data collection to data ingestion and transformation for processing\, analysis\, exploration and visualisation. DESCRIPTION:“Ubiquitous computing\, mobile devices\, and big data come together to give rise to a new urban paradigm being celebrated by many technology corporations and municipalities alike: the smart city.” \n\n\n\nThe smart city agenda is only now starting to slowly move beyond the technology and data hype and come to terms with issues of housing affordability\, digital inclusion\, social justice. \nWith society’s current limited perspective that centres around humans\, we risk to forget how we are entangled with and connected to other living beings\, the environment\, and the wider ecosystem that keeps us alive. Can we reconceptualise the smart city as a place where people and place meet to make a net positive contribution to the world?” (Marcus Foth – Connected Urbanism and Cohabitation in the Smart City) \nAs governments and big tech companies are going to spends tons of money on amazing technology like IOT\, AR\, VR\, AI\, etc. to power up cities in order to make it an artificial organism that crunch data and take actions\, it’s easy to forget or to keep humans outside of the pictures. In this scenario\, it would be easy to quickly resort to human-centered designas a way to put people’s need back at the center as opposed to the servant technology. \nBut when it comes to city there’s so much more to take into account than the relationship between people and technology as cities exists on a wider and more complex scale and a broader ecosystem has to be taken into account. \nFor the first time\, Service Design Drinks Milan will host a visiting professor from the other side of the world: Marcus Foth\, professor of Urban Informatics at Queensland University of Technology of Brisbane will present his speech about Connected Urbanism and Cohabitation in the Smart City\, supported by Stefano Maffei\, full professor from School of Design of Politecnico di Milano and director of Polifactory. \nThe event will be held in English. Limerick City is a lively town with a wide range of restaurants\, museums\, a medieval castle\, theatres\, pubs and excellent shopping.  These are centrally located in Limerick within 10 minutes of the University and the proposed location.  Limerick City and the Shannon Region are located on the internationally renowned tourist attraction known as the ‘Wild Atlantic Way’.  Locally\, there are many walkways beside the Shannon River.  The nearby Bunratty Folk Park is a major international attraction on the tourist calendar.  Ireland is renowned as the ‘land of a thousand welcomes’.  Limerick is no exception to this where its people are friendly and happy to welcome visitors from all over the world. \nThe University of Limerick (UL) was established in 1972 as the National Institute for Higher Education\, Limerick and classified as the University of Limerick in 1989. The University of Limerick is an independent\, international focused university.  It is also a young\, energetic and enterprising university with a proud record of innovation in education and excellence in research and scholarship.  Its mission is to promote and advance learning and knowledge through teaching\, research and scholarship in an environment which encourages innovation and upholds the principles of free inquiry and expression.   Particular attention is paid to the generation of knowledge which is relevant to the needs of Ireland’s continuing socio-economic development. \nThe University\, City and Irish Government are committed to the furtherance of academic activity and research based activity in Limerick as well as placing a strong focus on industrial and commercial development\, particularly in the sectors embracing IoT.  This is founded on a strong partnership between all stakeholders through real support by organisations such as Science Foundation Ireland\, Failte Ireland (the National Tourism Board) as well as local and national industry many of whom are key players in the IoT space and have previously acted as patrons and/or sponsors to major events in the past.  Strong academic links exist to all national 3rd Level Institutions through active research collaboration via nationally funded schemes such as the SFI Centers program and further afield through Horizon 2020 and other EU funded programs. DESCRIPTION:Real-time data and real-time brokering of data transactions are becoming central in our increasingly data-driven societies\, linked to both economic\, social and environmental development. \nPlease register here. \n  \nBy 2025\, real-time data is projected to make up more than a quarter of all data being created\, and the vast majority will be IoT data (IDC\, 2018). This means that all sectors and all organisations need robust ways to share IoT data and orchestrate the services relying on them\, including AI-based analytics and blockchain/DLTs. \nAs we’re looking into a near future where infrastructure and value chains are increasingly linked to partnerships and ecosystems\, we see data spaces and data lakes with complex governance structures as the foundation for service delivery and meeting societal priorities. \nThis new situation must be met by similarly tuned transaction mechanisms. Whether monetised or not\, such transactions cannot happen without clear and transparent\, but also agile\, terms and conditions: service level agreements\, retention\, ownership etc. \nThe workshop will take its starting point in ecosystems where such transformative marketplaces\, or ecosystem transaction management mechanisms\, are already forming and being discussed. These include Smart Cities & Communities\, Food & Farming\, Healthcare and Automotive. \nPurpose \nThe purpose of the workshop is to bring key European stakeholders together to: \n\nDiscuss the value proposition of an ecosystem-based approach to transaction management related to IoT and data (data\, services\, components\, hardware and training)\, both monetised and non-monetised\,\nLearn from existing cases and implementations of IoT & data marketplaces and emerging needs\, including technical underpinnings and issues of governance in emerging infrastructure partnerships\,\nIdentify most promising paths to a sustainable scale-up of IoT & data marketplaces\, including key actors and instruments from both supply- and demand-side\, and taking into account the need to protect local priorities and critical infrastructure.

DESCRIPTION:The main objective of this workshop is to gather insights\, practical experience and views from experts and professionals on organisational interoperability and public service governance. Participants are invited to present examples and use cases of integrated public services and to identify best practices (from local to EU level and across domains) on the basis of which guidelines can be proposed. \nThe workshop will start by presenting the key concepts of the European Interoperability Framework (EIF)\, their role and interrelation and explaining the EIF recommendations attached to these concepts. \nWhile the discussion among participants will focus on the concepts of Organisational Interoperability and Public Service Governance\, the study team will also present the results from previous studies on a third related EIF concept\, i.e. Interoperability Governance. \nPlease register here.
