The Finnish EU Presidency, starting in July 2019, has announced that it will put digitalisation of cities & communities at the centre of its 6-month EU presidency. Finland has stated that it will in particular explore the scale up of digital solutions in cities.

What kind of innovations based on the opportunities of digitalisation can increase the quality of life and sustainable development in cities, while accelerating economic growth?

This is a key question that the Finnish Presidency wants to find answers to under the second half of 2019. Cities encompass a broad range of future-looking opportunities, which may boost sustainable development, urban mobility, circular economy and energy-smart living as some examples

Cooperation with Major City Networks

The Finnish Presidency has announced that it will join forces with cities and different networks connected to cities and digitalisation. The Finnish cities of Helsinki and Oulu will host major Side Events of the Presidency addressing urban development and digitalisation. Partnered European networks are Open & Agile Smart Cities (OASC), EUROCITIES, and Digital Transition Partnership of the UAEU, among others.
