SPACE technologies are an unfamiliar technology for many cities. Yet they can provide very useful tools for regions, cities and communities to tackle everyday challenges they are facing.

Project partners in Helsinki

Last week the SPACE4Cities kick-off meeting took place in Helsinki, to mark the start of a new era for cities to exploit the opportunities that SPACE technologies can offer to them.

The SPACE4Cities project aims to stimulate the development and uptake of space-based solutions for dynamic use and management of public space, which leverage European technologies for navigation and earth observation such as Galileo and Copernicus. Project partners include the cities of Helsinki, Amsterdam, Ghent, Guimares and Athens Region together with OASC and Aerospace valley.

Over the next few months, the project will engage with many cities across Europe to explore the potential of SPACE based solutions and identify common challenges that can be tackled by these. These efforts will culminate in a pre-commercial procurement #PCP to be launched early next year to seek innovative solutions from the market.
