The TEFs are large-scale physical and virtual facilities to test AI-based hard- and software technologies in real-world environments.

As digital technologies play an increasingly large role in all aspects of our lives, from production lines and supply chains to robots, drones and everyday software, it is key to ensure that they are used in a responsible, ethical, trustworthy manner.

EU member states and the European Commission are co-funding the TEFs for five years under the Digital Europe Programme to allow AI developers to bring trustworthy AI to the market.
The first four TEFs will be officially launched in Copenhagen on Tuesday next week.

The first TEF projects focus on four distinct domains:
– agriculture and food, “agrifood TEF” project
– manufacturing, “AI-MATTERS” project
– healthcare, “TEF-Health” project
– cities & communities, “Citcom.AI” project

OASC is an associated partner in the Citcom.AI project.

Beyond providing a testing service, the TEFs offer real-world feedback for policy formulation, helping regulators make informed decisions about the safety and utility of a technology.
This approach aims at a harmonious balance between technological progress and societal welfare.
